I've been reading a bunch of scientific history recently about the period in which perfectly rational people could profess a belief in the Noachian Flood and intelligent design without anyone laughing at them even a little bit.

Unsurprisingly, most of the people with these opinions were male, and therefore never woke up in dire need of a dose of laudanum only to quell their own fears about their bodies malfunctioning with, "Oh, it's just my period arriving."
