Brains are inconvenient

Sometimes they devise stories you would rather they hadn't. Presently the back of my head is engaged in trying to figure out how to make Peter Kingdom/Lyle Anderson work when they are perfectly lovely as a platonic partnership.

Sometimes brains give you opening lines that are so beautiful that you want the rest of the story despite all other considerations. Fortunately, I am used to writing drabbles based on larger story ideas, and today is a day for banishing that which haunts us, so: a drabble.
