I got to cite my favorite SCOTUS case name: United States v. One Package of Japanese Pessaries, 1936, in which it was ruled that birth control is too obscene to send through the mails.

It's not my favorite outcome of a SCOTUS case -- that would be a hard-run race -- but it sure wins the weird name competition.

In other news, I have more than 50K of my current project, which is set well before US v. Pessaries, and which I keep looking things up for. My search history keeps getting weirder.

There is definitely a balance between "Let the scene breathe" and "It's taken these characters ten pages to get into each other's pants after they decided they were going to have sex."

But that is a problem for Editing Petra, not a problem for Drafting Petra.

TIL that people gave other people the middle finger in ancient Rome, and definitely in the US after 1886, the first photographed bird-flipping. Use this knowledge wisely!
