Not quite Oprah's Book Club
Jan. 16th, 2013 11:55 amI feel that it is appropriate to imagine a large tricolor sticker that says "As discussed (if not quite by name, except obliquely) on Fandomspotting" on the nonexistent but indubitably lurid cover of A Wasps' Nest. Inasmuch as the cover isn't the penultimate piece of fanart on this page, which it has been in my head for a long time. I might need an icon of that again on general principles of immorality. Thanks, Echo, wherever you are these days.
Astute listeners will be able to pinpoint the moment in the broadcast at which I convulsed in a mixture of pride, shame, and giggles, namely at the end of the sentence that begins at 0:13:29 in the youtube version. It happened again later, but with less shame and more giggles.
Notoriety isn't as good as fame, but is heaps better than obscurity, to quote my other favorite book.
It is extremely strange to hear about something I've contributed to that has a cult following of sorts--however it has tailed off in the decade since we wrote the thing--wherein I can no longer see the email to which any of the feedback goes, and on which I remember being pleased and shocked to receive one Letter of Comment per chapter, especially because it was explicit. Those were the days before anonymous kudos, says the granny in her rocking chair. Why, for one comment we had to have our characters fucking uphill over the barricade both ways. In the snow! Yes, even on June 5th in Paris.
Except, not the snow.
